Trojan/Pennine Release
13 June, 2006
Pennine pass thanks to Trojan
Leading LB fabricator, Pennine Home Improvements, have extended their existing BS7950 accreditation to include the new Stallion 2 shootbolt designed and manufactured by Trojan Hardware. BS7950 accreditation is the approved specification for enhanced security performance of casement and tilt/turn windows for domestic applications.
Brian Perry, Managing Director at Pennine Home Improvements said: “We have used Trojan Hardware for some time, with considerable success. We adopted their new Stallion 2 shootbolt as it offers fabricators some fantastic benefits including a very high performing product. The quality of the shootbolt was crucial in retaining BS7950 accreditation, demonstrating the excellence of Trojan’s hardware.”
The Stallion 2 shootbolt from Trojan was introduced by the company earlier this year. It operates under a similar ethos to the popular Stallion 1 shootbolt, but with a new robust design including a largely stainless steel construction for maximum corrosion resistance. Stallion 2 also incorporates a unique clip in action to the Eurogroove along with an automatic self setting action which allows the shootbolt to be set at the required length with greater ease. All of these functions equate to time-saving benefits for the fabricator with the assurance of a high performing product.
Pennine Home Improvements supply a range of quality windows, doors and conservatories from their impressive manufacturing centre at Newcastle upon Tyne. Having developed a company ethos and enviable reputation for quality, dealing with a supplier who adopts the same attention to detail is fundamental. Brian Perry concludes: “Not only do Trojan offer some of the most innovative products in the market, but their service and technical knowledge is equally impressive. It makes a refreshing change to work with a company that has developed a range of hardware with the fabricator firmly in mind and the relationship we have with Trojan is excellent.”

Trojan News Release
27th July, 2006
Trojan Launch Stallion 2
Innovative hardware specialists, Trojan, has launched the new Stallion 2 shootbolt into their impressive range of products. Designed for Eurogroove systems, Stallion 2 has comparable features to the company’s popular Stallion 1 Shootbolt, but incorporates new design innovations.
Stallion 2 presents a robust new design, which is largely of stainless steel construction. This gives the shootbolt even greater corrosion resistance – which was proved when it achieved 1000 hours Salt Spray resistance under BS EN 1670:1998 test conditions. It also incorporates a unique clip in action to the Eurogroove, together with an automatic self-setting action. This means the shootbolt can be set at the required length even more easily. Rising locking cams maximise both engagement into the keeps and frame clearance. Together, all these features offer fabricators even greater time-saving benefits and increased performance.
Commenting on the product’s introduction, Paul Judd, Trojan’s Technical Sales Manager, said: “Stallion 1 has been such a fantastic product that the pressure was on when it came to developing the new Stallion 2. I think we’ve succeeded. Like Stallion 1, the Stallion 2 is telescopic allowing the shootbolt to be adjusted to suit the window size within seconds, without needing any cropping or cutting. It is also entirely pre assembled, with no extra parts other than keeps, that coupled with the clip fit action into the Eurogroove plus the self setting feature, makes it easier and quicker to fit than ever. The sleek stainless steel design is being well received by fabricators as well. The Stallion 2 has already achieved BS7950 accreditation across a wide variety of window systems, which I feel demonstrates the quality and versatility of this shootbolt, not forgetting that it holds Secure by Design accreditation as well. We are delighted that the Stallion 2 is already proving to be a very popular product with fabricators throughout the UK.”
The Stallion 2 shootbolt is available from stock and is available in sizes that are suitable for a wider range of sash rebates from 300mm to 1750mm.

Trojan Hardware – Press Release
Accred/Selecta
26th October, 2006
Locks of celebrations
Both Trojan Hardware and Selecta Systems have cause to celebrate. Selecta Systems are celebrating achieving BS7950 accreditation – the approved specification for enhanced security performance – on their casement windows. And Trojan are celebrating because Selecta’s casement windows utilised their innovative Stallion 2 shootbolt which played a significant part in achieving the performance standard.
Mark Walker, Quality Manager at Selecta Systems said: “We’re delighted we’ve achieved the accreditation utilising the Stallion 2 shootbolt. It is a fantastic product and probably the best shootbolt system on the market. Top quality, strong and durable hardware is fundamental because the windows need to withstand the rigorous testing they undergo as part of the assessment process. Having first hand experience of working with Trojan’s products, the decision to use the Stallion 2 shootbolt was obviously a good one and demonstrated yet again the value of our four-year relationship with Trojan.”
The Stallion 2 shootbolt has become a reputable product for Trojan and is recognised as one of the most competent shootbolts available. It offers benefits including fast fitting thanks to a pre-assembled telescopic design, a unique clip-in action to the Eurogroove and an automatic self-setting action. Its largely stainless steel construction makes it robust and corrosion-resistant too – it achieved 1000 hours Salt Spray resistance under BS EN 1670:1998 test conditions. Suitable for sash rebates from 300mm to 1750mm, it also offers Secure by Design accreditations.
Trojan Hardware and Design was established in 1996. Since then, it has developed an excellent reputation for offering fabricators high quality, innovative products. Mark Walker commented: “We’ve been working with Trojan for over four years and we couldn’t be happier with the relationship. Their commitment to providing a top quality product matches our own business ethos. We also appreciate their down to earth approach because it makes them very easy to do business with.”
In addition to the Stallion 2 shootbolt, Selecta also offer Trojan’s unique Patriot hinge along with their Reverse Espagnolette.

Trojan and Aluplast Release
11th December, 2006
Trojan and Aluplast slimline success
Trojan Hardware and Designs are celebrating another prestigious British Standards accreditation for one of their products. Aluplast (UK) Ltd’s Ideal 60 SA42CF slimline featured sash has achieved BS7950 using Trojan’s slimline off-set shootbolt.
Aluplast, whose UK headquarters are in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, had the accreditation presented to them by their local Conservative MP, Mr Andrew Robathan. Commercial Director of Aluplast, Alan Fielder, had contacted Mr Robathan in support of the current Edgetech campaign for reduced Vat on energy efficient windows. As a result, Mr Robathan had confirmed his support to the campaign and expressed a view in visiting Aluplast to learn more about the energy efficient products. He was delighted to present the certificate to Aluplast which indicates both the esteem in which such accreditations are held, as well as Aluplast’s pride in their achievement.
Paul Judd of Trojan said of Aluplast’s accreditation: “We’re obviously delighted for Aluplast and congratulate them on their success. We’re also delighted that they, like many of our customers, are confident enough in their own products, and our hardware, to seek accreditation. Such awards take a lot of time and hard work to achieve, so we feel it’s a testament to the quality of our products that they’re happy to embark on the journey.”
The certification is one of many Trojan Hardware and Design has received for their products recently. The company is renowned for its handles, hinges and shootbolts, all of which offer innovation, superior design and operational performance. Indeed, Trojan’s flagship product, the Stallion 2 shootbolt, is a licensed Secured By Design product. Trojan prides itself on having a product solution for most window and door systems and their products are the first choice for companies that take the quality and performance of their products seriously.

BBA certificate Stallion 2
18th January, 2007
Trojan receive official recognition of their flagship product’s quality
Trojan Hardware and Design are celebrating the news that one of their flagship products, the Stallion 2 Shootbolt, has just been awarded a BBA (British Board of Agrément) Certificate. Paul Judd, Trojan’s Technical Manager, commented, “We’re delighted to have attained the certification on the Stallion 2 Shootbolt because it’s testament to our ethos as a company. We put a lot of work into ensuring that the design and manufacturing quality of every one of our products is the best it possibly can be. This is reflected in this achievement.”
BBA Certificates are only awarded after rigorous assessment and are recognised by specifiers and other decision-makers as an indication of quality, so Trojan can be justly proud. The Stallion 2 Shootbolt’s assessment took around six weeks to complete and included salt spray and cycle tests to test its durability. The Shootbolt successfully underwent 240 hours of salt spray testing and consequently was awarded BS EN 1670:1998 Class 4.
The usual security test, which requires the product to achieve BS7950, was waived during this assessment, though. Why? Because the Stallion 2 Shootbolt’s reputation preceded it. Having previously achieved the accreditation as part of numerous other uPVC door and window products and being a licensed Secured By Design product, the BBA were satisfied the Shootbolt would meet standards.
Trojan Hardware and Design’s Stallion 2 Shootbolt is designed for Eurogroove systems. Its construction is largely stainless steel and features benefits including a unique clip in action to the Eurogroove, an automatic self setting action that sets the shootbolt at the required length and rising locking cams that maximise engagement as well as frame clearance. |

Trojan Hardware – Mega Egress Hinge
Release
8th February, 2007
At last – an Egress hinge that doesn’t compromise on design, security or safety!
The revolutionary new Mega Egress hinge from Trojan, allows the sash to move in line with the frame when fully open. This provides an unrestricted frame aperture, making it possible to meet the specified minimum escape access with smaller windows.
The traditional egress hinges used on fire escape windows often compromise on compression, security and load bearing, but the Mega Egress has been specifically developed to solve all these problems which Trojan believe will be welcomed enthusiastically by fabricators and specifiers.
The hinge is incredibly robust and one 330mm pair is suitable for all side hung applications up to a massive 1200mm wide vent. This has an added befit to fabricators as it means stock inventory can be reduced. The design allows the head of the hinge to be retained in a very secure manner thus compression is maintained in the corners of the window and the need for hinge protectors is eliminated. On a practical note, the Mega Egress also incorporates an easy clean feature which automatically latches back into the egress operation on closing.
The hinge has been extensively tested by Trojan and has given some astonishingly impressive results. Paul Judd, Trojan’s Technical Manager, said, “There has always been a compromise within the industry when designing for fire escape windows, but the introduction of the Mega Egress means that will no longer be necessary. I’m confident the Mega Egress will enhance our reputation for providing high quality, innovative hardware products and I’m excited about launching it onto the market.”
The Mega Egress comes in two stack heights, 14mm and 17mm. The hinge will be available from March, but samples are available now.

Trojan Hardware/Ford Windows
News Release
20th April, 2007
Securing reputations
Being able to prove product quality is a valuable selling tool for fabricators and a reassurance for consumers, which is why accreditations like BS7950 are so sought after.
One company that knows the value of these accreditations is Sheffield-based fabricator Ford Windows. Phil Shackley, Production Manager of Ford Windows‘, explains why: “Our clients include some of the biggest names in the construction industry – David Wilson Homes, Persimmon, Wimpey and the like. They need to protect their reputations as much as we do, so it’s vital that we’re able to demonstrate our commitment to the quality and high performance of our products. By achieving BS7950 enhanced security status on our windows we’re providing evidence of that commitment to quality to our clients.”
Ford’s window uses the Stallion 2 shootbolt from Trojan Hardware and Design. Using the Stallion 2 shootbolt in a product has helped many companies achieve BS7950 and its qualities and reputation are the reasons Ford Windows chose to use it in their windows.
The Stallion 2 shootbolt has a largely stainless steel construction to meet increasingly stringent requirements and minimise corrosion. It has achieved 1000 hours Salt Spray resistance under BS EN 1679:1998 test conditions and has the prestigious Secured By Design accreditation. Furthermore, the product has just been awarded a BBA (British Board of Agrément) Certificate.
For fabricators, the easy-to-fit nature of the shootbolt offers benefits for the fabrication process. It features a unique clip-in action to the Eurogroove – this automatic self-setting action sets the shootbolt at the required length and rising locking cams maximise engagement while maximising frame clearance. The shootbolt also offers flexibility: it’s available in a range of sizes to suit sash rebates from 300mm to 1750mm.
Phil Shackley concludes, “Trojan’s product quality is renowned for good reason. We use the Stallion 2 shootbolt in our windows because we think it is the best on the market. Achieving the BS7950 enhanced security accreditation is proof of this and confirmation that we’ve definitely chosen the right company to supply our hardware components.”

Trojan – Product Updates
30th May, 2007
Trojan’s design expertise benefits customers
Trojan Hardware and Design Ltd are proud of the fact that every product in their range offers the customer major advances in terms of innovation, security and operational performance. As a result, their products have won accolades and help their customers achieve important accreditations, including BS7950.
But even though Trojan’s products are renowned for their high quality and well-engineered strengths, the company doesn’t believe in resting on its laurels. Two of their handles have just been developed to offer even greater benefits to the customer.
The Cockspur is a relatively recent addition to the Trojan range, but it’s already proved popular with customers. End-users appreciate the handle’s distinctive design that’s ergonomic and sturdy without losing any of the straightforward functionality of a traditional cockspur design. They also appreciate its easy-to-use qualities: the Cockspur offers a “push-to-open” mechanism, which is available as key-lockable for added security, or blank/egress and retro fit blank options.
Fabricators benefit from the Cockspur handle’s flexibility. There are three locking wedge heights: 2.5mm, 4.0mm and 5.5mm, a range of finishes including gold PVD, chrome and traditional white, and all options are available for left- and right-handed users. It’s available with a blanked mechanism or with a retro fit blank that fits the standard key barrel and both options are available in green to highlight this egress function. The Cockspur was previously only available in two nib heights: 9.0mm and 15.5mm, but Trojan have just added a third nib height, 21mm, to increase its versatility and customer-friendliness.
The Sparta Window Handle is a well-established favourite with customers thanks to its BBA approved status and its extremely competitive price. Trojan’s customers know that this price isn’t because the company has compromised on quality or materials but because it features a unique and innovative locking mechanism that takes less time to assemble on the production line. Customers also like its versatility. It’s available in egress blank and retro fit blank options, a wide range of finishes including gold and chrome PVD with a full range of spindle lengths from 9mm to 40mm.
End-users have always benefited from the Sparta’s ergonomic design and sturdy and weighty feel, but a recent product development means the second generation Sparta will be even easier to use. Sparta 2 features a rubberised insert in the back of the handle grip – something that will make the handle even easier to use, especially for those with weaker grips including the elderly or infirm.
The Walsall-based company is already well-respected throughout the industry for the quality of its products. And with their commitment to continuous product development, as shown in the improvements to the Cockspur and Sparta, this reputation can only get better. |

Carera Windows complete prestigious installation in Birmingham
Midlands-based Carera Windows recently completed a prestigious installation at Birmingham’s Guild Hall Buildings.
The large-scale project took three months from start to finish and involved replacing 178 windows with aluminium casements fitted with the Stallion 2 shootbolt from Trojan Hardware. Carera’s Managing Director, Mark Crumpton, commented, “We’re one of only a few installers in the region with the capacity to manage such a large contract but we were nevertheless delighted to win such a prestigious tender.”
Mark is in no doubt why his company won the tender, saying, “We have an excellent reputation for providing a high quality service and I’m sure that helped us. Added to which, our products are clearly very high quality and use excellent components such as the Stallion 2 shootbolt, making them the ideal choice for a high profile building.”
Mark is right to single out the Stallion 2 for praise – it’s recognised as one of the industry’s leading shootbolts due to its uncompromising quality in all areas. The Stallion 2 has a largely stainless steel construction to meet increasingly stringent regulations and minimise corrosion. For example, it has achieved 1000 hours Salt Spray resistance under BS EN 1679:1998 test conditions. It also has the prestigious Secured By Design accreditation. The easy-to-fit nature of the shootbolt offers benefits for the fabrication process too.
Trojan Hardware and Design are based in Walsall, making them near neighbours of Carera Windows. But given the shootbolt’s quality, there’s no doubt their proximity was not the main reason for Carera choosing Trojan as their security components supplier! |
