Press Release: Trojan Group
29th July, 2010
Trojan Group launches new stainless steel door handle
The Trojan Group has just announced the launch of its Sparta Stainless Steel Door Handle. Manufactured in 304 stainless steel, giving it ultimate corrosion resistance, the handle is available in Polished Gold (PVD), Brushed, Gold, Satin and Chrome finishes. Such is the quality of the product that Trojan is able to offer a 25 year guarantee on the finishes.
Tony Chadwick, Trojan's Group Managing Director, says of the handle, "The quality and durability of the Sparta Stainless Steel Door Handle is immediately evident. The 25 year guarantee is simply a reflection of our confidence in the product. We're very proud of it and are delighted to be launching it onto the market."
However, the 25 year guarantee is not the only noteworthy feature of the handle. Trojan is renowned for its product innovations and this handle is no exception. It also incorporates a patented spring cassette, eliminating the familiar "drooping handle" effect seen in inferior door handles and further demonstrating the handle's quality.
Despite the quality and innovation on display in the Sparta Stainless Steel Door Handle, Trojan has been able to price it competitively in comparison to similar door handles, something that all fabricators will welcome in these lean times.
The door handle suites with the other handles in the Sparta range giving fabricators the opportunity to offer a coordinated product range. The door handle suits all locks and is available in a lever/lever option too.
Future developments for the door handle include a PAS 24-1 high security option, demonstrating Trojan's commitment to continuous product development and providing fabricators with the high quality hardware they need.

Trojan launches Patriot Stainless Steel T-Hinge onto the market

Trojan Manufacturing Group Ltd has just launched its latest product onto the market: the Patriot Stainless Steel T-Hinge. The T-Hinge joins the 3D Flag Hinge and Midi Hinge in Trojan's Patriot range.
Trojan's remit is to design and manufacture hardware that offers innovative features and benefits for both installers and end-users; and the Patriot T-Hinge is no exception.
Installers will value the fully 3-dimensional compression adjustment that makes fitting quicker and easier. There's another design feature that will make fitting easier too: the hinge is a conventional flag hinge that uses a telescopic action on the base, meaning there are no loose parts to fit together. What's more, it's none-handed, which will help to reduce inventory levels.
There are also a myriad of benefits for the end user, which will mean the Patriot T-Hinge will add value to doors that incorporate it. It has a stylish, slimline appearance: its base is just 18mm and it has a shallow flag height, making it unobtrusive and neat. It's available in a full range of UV-rated finishes including Gold (PVD), Chrome, White, Brown, Black and Tan (and other finishes available upon request too) so it will fit into any scheme.
The method used to fix the hinge in place means it offers very high security, even when the profile isn't reinforced. And even more astonishing is that even when the external screws are removed, thanks to the ingenious design, the hinge is still secure. Finally, the stainless steel construction means it offers unparalleled corrosion resistance and comes with a 20 year guarantee.
As the company goes from strength to strength following its recent move to new UK headquarters, the Patriot T-Hinge demonstrates that the company remains as committed as ever to providing innovative products that support installers and benefit end-users.

Trojan Group – Press Release

Trojan Manufacturing Group Ltd/Ford Windows

Sheffield's Ford Windows first started working with The Trojan Manufacturing Group five years ago. Since then, the relationship has gone from strength to strength and Ford Windows feels that Trojan's products bring multiple benefits.
The first product that Ford took was the Trojan's Mega Egress hinge in its windows. Impressed by the quality and benefits of the product, Ford quickly incorporated the Stallion shootbolt into its product. This decision paid dividends because as a result, Ford was able to achieve BS7950 on its products.
Since then, Ford's relationship with Trojan and the company now takes a wide range of Trojan products including the Patriot Midi Hinge and Patriot High Security Hinge, the Sparta 2 Window Handle and Sparta Door Handle and the Cockspur Handle.
Philip Shackley, Operations Director of Ford Windows, is clear about why his company continues to use Trojan's products. "They offer good customer service, which helps us enormously. But all the good service in the world doesn't make up for an inferior product. The fact is, Trojan's products offer unbeatable quality and innovation and that's why we continue to use them."
Philip knows that Trojan's products are slightly more expensive than similar products from competitors. He's equally as clear that the benefits they bring elsewhere more than make up for the initial extra cost. He says: "The Stallion 2 Shootbolt is quicker and easier to fit and has increased our productivity by 35% on shootbolt window manufacture. The Patriot Midi Hinge comes complete out of the box and no assembly is required therefore reducing the time spent fitting the hinge by 50%."
It's rare for a company to be able to quantify the benefits in this way. But Trojan prides itself on the innovations in its products, so perhaps it's hardly surprising in this case!
Ford Windows works in the new build market and was established in 1976. It manufactures around 1100 windows and 150 doors a week primarily for businesses in the new build market, including Barratts, Taylor Wimpey, David Wilson, Davidsons, Miller Homes and Morris Homes. The company also offers supply and fit services to this sector.
The company's quality is amply demonstrated in its prestigious client list. In Trojan it's got the support of a quality supplier. In short, it's the perfect match!

Trojan Group – News release

Trojan Group relocates to new larger premises

Walsall-based window and door hardware manufacturer the Trojan Group has announced that it will be moving to larger premises. The new facilities, which are still based in Walsall, will give the company 46,000 square feet of warehousing, manufacturing and office space bringing benefits for both Trojan and its customers.
The move forms part of the company’s rebranding as the Trojan Group and Tony Chadwick, the Group MD, says, “The relocation demonstrates our commitment to growth and is the commencement of our plan to consolidate and increase our sales and support into the UK and export markets. In addition to this we have a new range of innovative, price competitive products ready to offer and satisfy the market demands.”
The premises are indeed impressive. They treble Trojan’s previous warehousing capabilities and will give Trojan room for continued expansion. Trojan will achieve numerous benefits as a result of the move. It will make considerable operating cost savings because functions will no longer need to be duplicated across multiple sites and it will enable consolidation and strengthening in all departments. Trojan also guarantees its customers will benefit in terms of improved response times and better communication. There will also be improved R&D and testing facilities to support fully tested and certified products to reach the market earlier.
The Trojan Group has planned the move meticulously to ensure that customer service and lead times are unaffected. The new premises will be fully operational in April 2010.

News Release – Trojan - DGS
14 January, 2010
Trojan’s Mega Egress Hinge to be stocked by DGS Group

The DGS Group is delighted to announce it is now stocking the Mega Egress hinge from the Trojan Group. The hinge, which comes in one 330mm size and suits all side hung applications up to 900mm sash width, will supplement DGS’s own range of hinges to create a comprehensive and high quality product suite.
The DGS Group is one of the largest and most successful suppliers to the window and door industry, so its decision to stock the Mega Egress is proof of the hinge’s quality and performance capabilities. It’s also true to say that the Mega Egress has been a quantum leap forward in egress hinge design.
Perhaps the most striking thing about the Mega Egress is that it does not rely on the traditional Anderberg mechanical designs and therefore offers several significant advantages. It has a genuine 90 degree opening with an exceptional load carrying capacity in excess of 40kg. Trojan can also guarantee that there will be no sag or drop when the window is opened, something that’s unavoidable on many standard hinges. The hinge offers a 100% seal on the gasket thanks to the superior mechanical design and strength. Again, this is something that many other hinges fail to achieve since they rely on precision tolerances and numerous clearances on pivot points to allow the hinges to work.
Advantages for installers include the fact that the Mega Egress can be adjusted when in situ without the need to move or realign the window unit as a whole. Benefits for consumers include an easy clean position and auto reset locking back into the egress operation plus a maximised escape aperture.
In addition, the hinge offers increased security benefits over traditional hinges. Because an end cap is not needed, there is none of inherent weakness against attack. Plus proven design technology means that additional hinge protection is not needed to reinforce against break-in attempts.
Alongside all this innovation, the hinge has also achieved several prestigious accreditations. It’s been UKAS laboratory tested to BS EN 1670 and has exceeded grade 5 classification and Marine specification for ultimate corrosion resistance. It’s been tested to over 25,000 cycles under 40kg operational load and to the equivalent of BS7950 security test - 3Kn perpendicular load with 1Kn lateral load. Finally, it is BBA-accredited with certificate number S2-41921.
All these factors mean it’s perhaps hardly surprising that DGS Group has decided to stock the product. And those impressed by the hinge’s capability will be pleased to learn the Trojan Group has plans to introduce a new range of hinges based on the Mega Egress’s innovative design in the New Year – watch this space!

Trojan Release – Caldwell
16 December, 2009
New Trojan Group sash lock will be exclusively stocked by Caldwell, the vertical slider hardware market leader

Trojan Group products are renowned for their quality and innovation and its latest product – a sash lock for vertical sliders – is no exception. It’s received the seal of approval from Caldwell, the UK’s leading exponent of hardware for vertical sliding windows, because the company will be exclusively stocking the product from January 2010.
Bob Humphries, Caldwell Sales and Marketing Manager, explains why Caldwell chose Trojan’s lock: “The sash lock complements our other products and enables us to seek out other customers who require this type of product. Additionally, customers using other sash lock products will have no problem switching over to the new product.”
He adds, “The gold finish version is a PVD finish which is a much more modern and robust finish compared to traditional plating. The more recent design of the body shape means that the sash lock is highly contemporary with a stylish appearance. What’s more, I have worked with Terry Dolman, Trojan’s Group Technical Director, and Tony Chadwick, the company’s Managing Director, for many years, so I know the high levels of service and support we can expect to receive from them.”
Bob’s enthusiasm for the new product is perhaps hardly surprising given Trojan’s reputation. Like all Trojan products, the sash lock matches technical innovation with build quality. It is purpose-designed for the modern sliding sash window and contains all the necessary functionality in a simple and compact design that looks good in all finishes.
Caldwell will be offering the lock, on an exclusive basis, along with a complete range of matching accessory products for the sliding sash window so its customers can have confidence in the use of only suited products in decorative finishes. It is this sort of customer-focused decision that has made Caldwell the UK’s leading supplier of hardware for sash windows. The company leads the way in product design, offers its customer the widest product range and backs that up with customer service that’s delivered to the highest level. In short, it is a company with a very similar ethos to the Trojan Group, making the partnership a very good match.
Caldwell Hardware (UK) Ltd has been supplying hardware for vertical sash windows to the UK market since 1973. The company operates out of a 7,000 square metre site at Coventry.
Trojan Hardware and Design Ltd are designers, manufacturers and suppliers of leading-edge hardware solutions for the fenestration industry. The company has manufacturing bases in Walsall, UK and China.

Trojan Press Release

Trojan celebrate their letterplates achieving BS EN 1670:2007 Class 5

Leading hardware design and manufacturer, Trojan, is delighted to announce that its gold, chrome and white powdercoat finish letter plates have all achieved BS EN 1670:2007 class 5, or the 480 hour salt spray corrosion resistance test. The achievement proves that the letterplates are extremely hard-wearing and more than capable of withstanding the most ferocious weather conditions without losing their high quality finishes or functionality.
As anyone who has submitted products for testing to the standard will know, the salt spray test is a very demanding one, but Trojan’s letterplates passed with flying colours. Indeed, their exposure to the salt spray environment was continued to 1000 hours and they still showed no signs of significant breakdown. The testing laboratory’s report went so far as to say, “In our opinion, the products tested showed a superior finish application to the resistance salt spray corrosion testing” and an engineer commented informally that the finishes on the letterplates were among the best he had seen.
Keith Dolman, Trojan Group’s Cad Design Manager, coordinated the testing and was understandably delighted with the result. “The research and development phase for every new product is extremely thorough because we want to provide fabricators, installers and end users with a superior product. We don’t release any new product until we are 100% confident in its quality. Despite this confidence, it’s always pleasing when our products achieve accreditations such as these that prove their excellence.”
He added said, “In this economic climate, it’s more important than ever to have a clearly defined business remit. Ours is to provide high quality fixtures that add value to our customers’ businesses. Achievements such as the salt spray corrosion resistance test provide absolute proof that we are meeting this remit.”![]()
Trojan News Release -Trojan Director Retires
May, 2009
David Jones, Group Production Director, has retired.
David Jones, Group Production Director, has retired after 16 years at the Trojan Group in Walsall, West Midlands. Among many other accomplishments, David was responsible for setting up Trojan’s impressive state of the art manufacturing plant in China which still remains the centre of production excellence for the Trojan Group today.
A well-respected member of the Trojan Board, David grew up with fellow Director, Terry Moore, who had this to say on the retirement of his colleague and good friend, “I met David at the tender age of three when we lived next door to each other. We spent our childhood and early adult life together. Whilst in our early 20’s David travelled the world teaching large PLC’s how to set up and then commission a special plastic injection moulding method to achieve hollow moulds. This was known as gas injection. On return from his travels we met up for a beer, or two, and after a very long conversation we decided to join forces and establish Raytec Presswork and Plastics. Initially, it really was a family concern with respective wives, brothers and sisters all getting involved to make the business run efficiently. Tony Chadwick had previously worked closely with David and as the business increased in size, we required a specialist tool designer – David recommended Tony and then there were three. We quickly established the business in the Walsall area enabling us to give employment to around 80 people. As time passed, there was a threat from the Far East and as a result, David was instrumental in setting up our manufacturing plant in China. In and around 1997 we decided to set up our sister company, Trojan Hardware and Design, to satisfy the growing window and door furniture market. Terry Dolman, considered one of the best design innovators in the industry, quickly came on board and so the current Trojan Group team was established. Over the years David and I had often joked about early retirement, but it never seemed to happen. But finally David has made the decision to retire and pursue his hobbies of golf and gardening whilst spending valuable time with his grandchildren.”
David retired from the Trojan Group on 1st May, 2009. The board of Directors, fellow colleagues, friends and suppliers wish David every success and happiness in his well-earned retirement.

Trojan Release – letter plate
25th February, 2009
Trojan launches new letter plate

The Trojan Group has just launched its latest product – a stainless steel letter plate. Terry Dolman, Group Technical Director, said, “A front door is a focal point of most properties and the hardware should reflect this. With this in mind, our letter plate has simple and elegant styling that is designed to complement any door.”
As Terry says, the aesthetics are very important in a letter plate. Trojan’s has a unique design, with no unsightly plastic surround. Designed to fit in with the company’s Sparta door handle, it’s available in a full range of finishes including polished chrome, PVD gold, black and white, so will suit most styles of properties. Available in 40-40 and 20-20 configurations, it will suit doors from 20mm to 70mm thick too.
Of course, being a Trojan product, the technical features have not been forgotten. Like all its products, the Trojan letter plate has been designed with numerous features that will benefit the end user. The stainless steel construction gives it the ultimate corrosion resistance and UV stability. The return spring is made from stainless steel too, offering greater longevity than the more usual plastic spring and ensuring a continuous positive return action. The flaps open to 180 degrees, eliminating the possibility of excess leverage on the pivot points and extending its lifespan. And finally, the external flap has a complete peripheral seal that forms a full thermal and acoustic barrier, preventing noise intruding and heat escaping.
The quality of the letter plate has not been forgotten either and it has undergone rigorous testing to ensure its longevity. It has been UKAS laboratory tested to BS EN 1670:1998 and exceeded grade 5 classification (or 500 hours in a salt spray environment). The opening and closing action of the flap has been tested to 50,000 cycles too. And in the abusive pull test, it achieved loads over twice that of any conventional plastic pivot and torsion spring design.
The Trojan Group has already stated its aim to offer as much support as it can to its customers in the current economic climate. With the superb quality (and competitive price) of this letter plate now added to its already prestigious portfolio, it’s certainly offering the feature-packed products that fabricators and installers need to attract consumers.

Glass Times – Hardware Feature
Company Spotlight
9th February, 2009
Trojan – the strength of hardware design
Trojan Hardware and Design, the innovative manufacturer of hardware solutions for the fenestration industry, just has rebranded itself to become The Trojan Group. As the company enters a new and exciting phase in its history, we take a look at what the company has to offer and how it is equipped to weather the current downturn.
Trojan is the renowned designer of innovative and technically superior window and door hardware and its reputation is unparalleled within the industry. The company’s principal customers are window, door and conservatory manufacturers but it also supports the social housing sector by working with specifiers, contractors, architects and buyers who work in that field.
It is these customers who give Trojan the inspiration for all its products. Every item in its range is designed in its Walsall headquarters and answers a need. As a result, every product has tangible benefits and offers major advances in terms of technical innovation. For example, the Stallion 2 shootbolt, a bestseller in the range features a fast-fit telescopic design with auto setting function which reduces fabrication time and removes the need for cropping. It clips straight into the eurogroove, reducing the number of screws needed and features a rising cam system which gives a better sash to frame clearance. The Mega Egress hinge provides a revolution in hinges for fire escape casement windows. One size suits all side-hung applications up to 900m wide and because it moves the sash outside the frame aperture, smaller windows can achieve the minimum opening size. Such attention to customers’ needs so early in the design and production process is unusual and sets Trojan apart from its competitors. As every Trojan customer knows, a Trojan product will make their lives easier and add value to their product offering. As we enter a phase when overheads will need to be tightly monitored and sales will get harder, products that save time or add value will become even more important, placing Trojan in a very strong position.
The manufacturing process is something that sets Trojan apart too, because all products are manufactured in-house. This manufacturing capability will give Trojan an advantage in the coming months in terms of quality control and, more importantly, continuity of supply and cost control. As more and more companies are affected by the recession and are forced to increase their prices or close their doors, the supply chain will become increasingly fragile. Having control over the manufacturing process in the way they do will stand Trojan in very good stead, reassuring news for its customers.
The company has factories in Walsall that undertake pressure zinc die casting (on dies manufactured on hydraulic positive lock precision machines), injection moulding and presswork, tool design and tooling. At its purpose-built, state-of-the-art 9640m2 factory in China, processes such as pressure zinc die casting, particle vacuum deposition (PVD), plating and powder coating. These in-house capabilities also mean it can undertake custom manufacturing to a customer’s precise requirements (and has the design expertise to support them through every step of the process too).
As a result of the quality of the design and manufacture, plus the level of testing they undergo, Trojan’s products have achieved numerous prestigious accreditations, something that illustrates the company’s belief in supporting its customers as well as it can and is essential in any market, especially this one. Shootbolts are Secured by Design accredited and have also helped many window systems achieve BS7950 and many of its products are BBA accredited. These accreditations give window, door and conservatory manufacturers the reassurance they need that their own high quality products won’t be compromised by using Trojan’s equipment. They also give specifiers immediate reassurance that the products meet all appropriate industry standards and are suitable for all commercial applications.
The Trojan Group’s capabilities are showcased in its new website, www.trojan-hardware.com. The site demonstrates all of the company’s skills and shows exactly why it has become a market leader – and exactly how well-placed it is to weather the current economic storm. And as if that wasn’t enough, the company will soon be launching a series of new products to further cement its place in the market. Watch this space!

Hanley Trade Frames celebrate the benefits of their partnership with Trojan
Hanley Trade Frames, based in Stoke on Trent, have been working with Trojan Hardware and Design, the innovative window and door hardware company, for some time and the partnership is going from strength to strength.
The original decision to partner with Trojan was taken because the company offers high quality, reliable and innovative products that are easy to use. Hanley Trade Frames are committed users of Trojan’s Sparta window handle and the Patriot door hinge and both products perfectly illustrate the Trojan ethos.
The Sparta handle has a substantial weight and high quality feel with superb performance, making it ideal for companies that trade on the quality of their products. A soft grip insert gives users improved comfort and feel while inline or cranked options offer improved hand clearance. It’s available in gold (PVD), chrome and traditional white and in a variety of spindle lengths so it’s suitable for a wide range of installations. Yet despite the product’s quality, it’s extremely competitively priced. This is thanks to a design innovation – a unique locking mechanism that requires less assembly time in the factory.
The Patriot flag hinge has design features that offer fabricators and installers a wealth of timesaving benefits. Unlike traditional flag hinges, the Patriot is supplied ready to fit with just two parts, making the fitting process much easier. Adjustments are easy too – compression and vertical height adjustments are done using a single Allen key in the same action. Once the desired position has been achieved, both adjustments simply click into place, eliminating the need for a secondary plug. Not only that, the adjustment can only be done in the perpendicular plane. This means adjustment can only be done when required so it’s impossible to adversely affect the lateral adjustment which prevents the frame being pulled into an ‘S’ shape and its integrity being compromised. The hinge is available in gold (PVD), chrome, light brown, dark brown, black and traditional white.
The products offer clear benefits to both installers and end users, something that Steve Thomas, Hanley’s Director, is well aware of. He says “The quality of the products is undoubted and it’s great to have such a solid relationship with Trojan. It gives us the confidence to focus on growing our business.”
Hanley Trade Frames is based in Stoke on Trent. The company sells its door and window ranges direct to the trade.

Trojan News Release
New Product – Midi Hinge
19th August, 2008
Approved.
Trojan’s new hinge shows why they’re at the design cutting edge

Trojan Hardware and Design have just launched their new hinge and it’s destined to further cement their reputation for supplying high quality products that make fabricators’ lives easier. The new Midi Hinge has been designed to complement the company’s renowned Patriot hinge and it will be the perfect hinge for those projects that need the Patriot’s technical innovation and high quality but don’t need its heavy duty benefits.
The link with the Patriot undoubtedly gives the Midi Hinge a great provenance and fabricators already familiar with Trojan’s products will be confident it will be a worthy addition to the range. So what does the Midi offer exactly?
Firstly, it’s supplied pre-assembled with integral parts while a slim back plate maximises clearance at the plaster line. This makes it exceptionally quick and easy to fit, plus there are no loose parts to lose on site.
Those integral parts are easy-to-adjust too. Compression and height adjustment is done with the same Allen key, so maintaining aspect ratios. The hinge also offers concentric compression for the perfect fit. And once all the adjustments have been made, they are retained in the desired position with Trojan’s unique one-click “click stop” device. This brilliant technical innovation of Trojan’s eliminates the need for a secondary plug retainer and allows any adjustment to be automatically retained. Furthermore, once assembled to the door, the high security screws are totally inaccessible and therefore protected from attack.
Finally, the Midi Hinge is available in a full choice of colours – White, Cream, Black, Grey, Caramel Brown, Oak Brown, Gold (PVD) and Chrome making it ideal for a huge variety of mid-range projects.
Paul Judd, Trojan’s Technical Sales Manager said, “We’re very excited about launching the Midi Hinge onto the market. It offers just what our customers were asking for: all the benefits of the Patriot in a format that’s suitable for mid-range projects. Our aim is always to provide products that provide the fabricator and the end user with a tangible range of benefits and we’re confident that’s exactly what we’ve achieved with the Midi.”
As Paul suggests, Trojan have built their reputation on technically innovative products. With the Midi Hinge, it seems they’ve come up with another winner!

They are robust and hardwearing and the new soft grip inserts gives a softer feel to the product, which is popular with end-users. The products are already proving to be extremely popular with fabricators throughout the UK, which is very good news.”
The handles are available in a full choice of finishes which includes Gold (PVD), Chrome and Traditional White.

Gloucestershire company celebrates achieving BS 7950

Tewkesbury’s Firmfix Doors and Windows are celebrating this week: their casement windows have just been awarded BS 7950 enhanced security against unauthorised forced entry.
Steve Howarth, Firmfix’s General Manager said, “We are delighted to have achieved this accreditation. It’s an indication of the high manufacturing standards we have in place and also of the quality of the components we use.”
One of the main components in Firmfix’s casement windows is the Stallion 2 shootbolt from Trojan Hardware and Design. Firmfix have been working with Trojan for many years because their products offer the design and build quality they are looking for. Steve says “We chose the Stallion 2 because of its intelligent design and it’s never let us down. We find it very easy to work with and it’s never given us any costly on-site issues.” He adds, “What’s more, we’ve even had comments from elderly customers about how easy it is to use!”
Trojan’s Stallion 2 shootbolt has helped many other companies achieve BS 7950 accreditation on a wide range of windows. It is BBA approved and has Secured By Design accreditation. Available in a range of sizes to suit sash rebates from 300mm to 1750mm, it is one of a range of shootbolts that Trojan manufacture. Though suitable for different applications, they all share the Trojan ethos of being designed to make major advances in the innovation, security and operational performance.
Firmfix Doors and Windows are a family-run independent company supplying and fitting windows, doors, conservatories, porches and garage doors in the retail sector. They currently manufacture around 100 frames a week and their installation team has just achieved an impressive 98% customer satisfaction rating.
